The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – Revised Core Set
30m - 90m
1 - 4 Players
Ages 14+
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

LotR LCG absolutely fantastic. If you like card games and the IP then you will almost certainly love this game. It is a deckbuilding dream where you will want to customize each deck for the specific scenario that you are about to play. Some you'll want to be fast, others you'll want a lot of defense. Each scenario is unique and requires unique strategies for each deck you build to play them. It is far from perfect though, it's a bit less refined than some of FFGs later offerings which makes sense since it is older than them. Many people pick up games like this to be able to solo. While that is possible and quite enjoyable, the game is best either with two players or playing two handed solo. The action windows can be a bit to get your mind around if you're new to these types of games. If all these things are a plus then, perhaps the biggest downfall will be how the game was released originally. All the individual packs are not practical to chase down, so it's a bit late in the game if you wish to be a completionist. However, the new revised sets provide a great offering at a reasonable price.

Una experiencia muy completa especialmente para los que gusten de jugar solos. Si te gusta jugar cooperativos de cartas, también es un acierto. Ojito con los que sois completistas que esto tiene trampa.

2023 Oct: After playing both Arkham Horror and Marvel Champions LCGs first, I found Lord of the Rings LCG to offer a distinct experience. While there are minor overlaps with the others, the unique combination and mix in this game make it stand out. I can see how it offers ample opportunities for strategic deck construction and subsequently, an interesting tactical gameplay. The depth of tactics is more profound than in Marvel, given the multiple layers involving numerous heroes, decisions about who quests, defends, or attacks, where to place your attachments, and which location to target. While the gameplay may not be as strategically intense or story-rich as in Arkham, the atmosphere, thematic resonance, and mechanical touches in Lord of the Rings LCG are just as compelling, if not more so, than in the other games. For me, playing in standard mode seems to be the ideal fit.
