A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (Second Edition)
60m - 120m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 14+
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

A great game is back in a new dress! With refined mechanics, a higher average cost of cards and without the ubiquitous plot "Valar Morghulis", gameplay is more centered on the main characters and definitely provides an engaging experience. It is not just a game for the fans of novels/tv show, but a proper good game with lots of choices. From deckbuilding to gameplay, many nuances and layers force players to struggle their way towards victory. It is the only game that matters? Probably not, but one of the best indeed! I need more cards to build more decks!! So I traded for a fifth copy of the core set... No need to add anything else, I guess...

Update: Still probably my favorite gaming experience ever. However, as with all FFG competitive LCGs, the game ultimately crumbled under its own weight. The later cycles/boxes are just bananas stronger than the earlier ones. So my updated rating reflects the card pool as a whole. ---------- Update: Still a 10 well into the second cycle. The fact that the Organized Play program is thriving for Thrones in my area certainly helps. Playing at competitive tournaments is challenging, rewarding, and fun because the Thrones community is excellent. ---------- Probably my favorite tabletop game of all time. A tense, thematic, skill-based game with endless replayability. Hopefully the ever-expanding cardpool will continue to maintain the incredibly high standard of quality inherent to the core set and first chapter pack.

Arguably the best competitive card game in the LCG format. I might give the nod to this over Ashes Reborn purely because of the source material and how well implemented it is here but they are both incredible competitive games that won't require you to go into the CCG model to scratch that itch. Plenty of expansions to play through as well and as someone who only plays this in a casual setting, I have to say it has held up remarkably well.
