Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Seems to lack memorable moments. The most memorable moments seem to come at the first turn of the game when a couple of players use tunnels to jump across the board, plant a factory, produce and sell for a large profit. Some of the events attempt to inject drama into the game, but most are forgettable by the end of the round (owls, I guess, are a bit memorable simply for being weird while bringing a simple effect into play). There is a lot of flash in the art, but that seems to be distracting from what occurs during the game. Battles occur, but again, aren't all that memorable and have little in the way of actual stakes. The board play develops in a fairly standard march of battling and expansion. The milquetoast board play is in contrast to its art style, which thumps you with techno beats. The hand management/deck-building seems to be the best aspect of the game play.

8 is probably generous but others have been very harsh I feel. This is a solid game with lots to recommend it, it's a bit clumsy in terms of set up and some of its scoring mechanics and the board can feel very busy but the core mechanics work really nicely and there's a tidy little game hidden under a little clutter.

Love CoR but the learning curve is so steep it rarely gets to the table. Hoping this streamlined version gets more play.
