This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Interesting deck builder game. Finally one which did not steal all its ideas from Dominion. You have to trash cards when you buy something, and you have to pay for your VP as well. You really have to pay attention to avoid clogging your hand and having a good amount of resource cards. I find the game thematic, although the event deck does not contribute to that theme at all. Do not expect an engaging story, the event deck is more like a collection of generic apocalypse text blocks (at least for the first of three chapters, perhaps the others are better?).

I heard good things about how EoH does deck building, and while it was alright, it didn't set it self apart from other deck builders I like better. Sam Healy does a great review for this game and sums up the interesting mechanics, but the game as a whole didn't keep my attention.

Played it once. In Berlin. It was not bad. I know you don't suppose to judge on a first game play, but, it was a little 'put you don't type of game, every time you wanted to do something, you find yourself running out of cards. I will play it again.
