Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

PROS: The theming is *excellent*. Based heavily on the mechanics of Elder Sign, and about as complex as Omens of the Pharaoh or Omens of the Deep. 'X-Men: MI' adds just enough of the Arkham Horror LCG story flavor mechanics to make this a unique hybrid of all of the above and... mostly works. Pretty good solo mode plays similar to AH LCG, though of course X-Men themed. CONS: The continent decks (missions, ala the museum deck in Elder Sign) only have six cards in each pile, and only five piles so there's not much replayability there. And the villain and story stacks are similarly limited. The major CON though, is that the set-up and play-time feel too long and involved for what feels like it should be a faster/simpler game. And the real estate this takes up on the table is *hefty*. If you get the massive playmat, it still isn't large enough to contain the play area and your characters in any logical way. Ultimately, this is an aesthetically beautiful but "just alright" game that feels like it's one or two expansions away from being a really good game. Though, it doesn't seem like an expansion is on the way.

I must be playing things really wrong because I have to make a bunch of house rules to get even close to a chance of winning the game even on the lowest difficulty levels

Played a 4-player game with Cyclops, Beast, Wolverine, and Jean-gray. The Game: Overall gameplay was quite fun (especially since we had no idea what bonds, mutants, or crises cards actually did). Game started out kind of slow as we were able to easily clear the cards, then eventually started to ramp up as the act cards kicked in. Mechanics for the showdown were kind of brutal but we pulled through at the end. Components and cards were pretty self-explanatory and easy to follow, looking through heroes abilities afterwards, it seems some are MUCH stronger than others ( I played beast and the abilities were pretty underwhelming). Overall a pretty fun and light coop game that makes you hope the dice gods are on your side.
