Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

I consider the European Expansion essential. The addition of birds that offer alternative and personal end-of-round scoring completes the options of card abilities you could already feel was missing from the base game. The expansion can be included right alongside the base game without new players even noticing. Given the option, I would never choose to play Wingspan without it.

Makes a great game better, without making it more complex or cumbersome. Pretty much the perfect execution of an expansion for this game. It's still fine to play the base game without the expansion, so it's not a must-have, but is definitely worth having.

The expansion I wanted, when I first played Wingspan. Brings the birds of my home onto my table and doesn't bloat the game with too many extra rules.
