Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

My husband wants to ban the Mute Swan from our games (on account of it being overpowered). I disagree as I think it's absolutely fine as long as I'm the one who has it, and so far whenever it has appeared it has been mine so I'm happy for it to stay!

More birds, goal tiles, and bonus cards. More of all these things are good, but none of these do all that much to overhaul game play, but does allow players to build even more diverse aviaries. The main attraction is end round powers. Some are situationally very strong, some are provide only modest benefits. Overall they feel a bit underpowered if not played early, but still add a bit more depth to the game. Post Oceania, I have come to appreciate this set even more. I haven't played any Base + EE in quite some time, but teal powers are certainly not underpowered anymore.
