The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

A lot of different things and very nice scoring (with 4 thematic VP-tracks grouped in pairs with only the lower ones counting). Nice theme implementation, too (with additional info sheet). Original action selection mechanism. The mask part, though in itself kinda fun, seems a bit too luck-dependent and and not so much influence and not so much interwoven with the other 3 aspects ( those other 3 are very nicely connected, though). Changing resources seems a bit too easy. Apart from those minor points, a very interesting game with a really nice feel to it. Relatively easy to get into despite its complexity. Scales well for all player counts due to different maps. Great components and variable tribe powers are a bonus, too.

Some interesting mechanics here - the 3x3 grid is cool, but ultimately there's too much randomness (in some weird places) and then constrainment on your actions. I want slightly more abilities to modify your 3x3 grid - swapping and/or flipping tiles. Some strategies felt underpowered - pelts, for one. The turn order mechanic is just bad - you can just choose to always go first and get priority, until the last turn where you maybe don't care.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first game, the action selection mechanism was unique, and the upgrading actions was satisfying. Combat/confrontation wasn't "in your face", and the different tribe powers didn't complicate things too much, but I liked the differentiation. I'll definitely play this again.
