Wayfarers of the South Tigris
60m - 90m
1 - 4 Players
Ages 12+
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Got SMASHED by the Shembot 110 to 77, but it was hellafun!!! I had some trepidation about Wayfarers due to the insane amount of iconography in the game and how often I can get this to the table. After one solo play, I felt like playing it again immediately, which usually means I truly enjoyed the game for the fun factor. I ain't gonna lie, sometimes I am Wow'd by innovative game designs that I forget to ask "did I enjoy this game????". With Wayfarers, my answer is an outstanding Yeshh! (R.I.P Sean Connery). Oh Dangit, this is starting to turn into a review and I gots to get back to gov't work. Summary: Game Design 8.5/10, Solo Design 9.0/10, Multiplayer TBD (I wouldn't play this at 4 due to Iconography overload and no fixed rounds) Mechanics: Mish-mash of TerraMars(Tagging Icons) + Burgundy(Dice Placement/bumping) + Quest for El Dorado(Race to End-game Trigger) + Tokaido(landscape tableau building) + AFFO(Polynomial tile placement to define dice tags) + Troyes("Worker" swapping). Only a genius design team can pull this $hit off and make it thematically relevant plus a killer AI system too(less than 5 seconds upkeep time on average) and it's a real Turing Machine nahmsayin'?. Rulebook is sub-par IMO. On first play, I recommend just focussing on planning to get to the end of the racetrack. This way you'll have referenced the rulebook so many times, you'll have mastered the language of The Mico.

Excellent set-collecting game. Initially quite confusing, as there many options but no clear path to follow. The game crystallises out fairly quickly though, and the options become clearer (if not actually which one to pursue). Limited interaction, as the mini-race game across the board isn't a deal breaker. Overall, a fun puzzle to work out how to get what you need as efficiently as possible.

Will be at Spiel Essen, hall2 Google AmassGames (it'll be on there when scheduled) :) https://youtu.be/bMIXM4Z77_M Mislaid a green upgrade cancel token for Wayfarers :/ (Neither of us managed a set of different tags for the bonus 5 points yesterday. The luck of the cards hindered some choices and I only had one townsfolk card again. I only rested 3-4 times in the game. The worker placement of the influence, workers, dice and the engine build of the (townsfolk as well as land and port cards, upgrades/caravan ) is interesting... Pulling you in multiple directions "if I wait I can do better". Both the sun and the moon appeared in the same river/row Used influence markers more yesterday I influenced many cards, including all the space ones (didn't gain tax though)
