Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Crunchiness and variability are very high. Excitement factor can be low sometimes. Since everything is deterministic (aside from the crisis card reveal each turn) and the player's perspective is that of a 5 million foot view, solo play can feel dry and dispassionate, like writing a history textbook. "Wow" moments are rare; mostly I only feel a little proud of myself when I have a good turn or at the end of cycle 3 when my agenda cards are piling on the influence. Setup/teardown time, fiddliness, and cognitive load are ridiculously high to the point where I think this has no business being a board game as opposed to a digital app. Even the smallest solo scenario can last 3 hours from setup to teardown. I don't have the time or mental energy to play more than 2 games at a time. The fan-made / designer-sanctioned solo app replaced the physical game for me. Now I am able to easily play 10+ times a day if I want. Expansion support in the future is unlikely, but I'm ok with that; there is plenty of content in the base game.

Rating from skimming the rule and some KS's clips, and expectation to see 4X game that was advertised. I surely see 'heavy euro in space theme' from great designers and a publisher look very promising but since it is heavily advertised as 4X and I'm looking forward to Mindclash's 4X this is disppointing. the implementation of the 4X is just too shallow to make this look like a complex Scythe rather than 4X games. Can't feel any space empire running here. I will look forward to this and expected to play a heavy euro from the designer, but might not recommend it if one looking for a 4X experience game.

Wasn't as impressed with the competitive versions say to the likes of Eclipse. Edit: as I thought, co-op seems to be the true mode of the game. I found it to be an exceptional challenge, if not maybe extremely hard, even on medium. I expect the rating to go up as I play more. One of my big problems is that the footprint and set-up time, even for solo, is tremendous
