Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Abstract mechanics, especially the castle. Almost no engine - get resources, spend resources, repeat. Several small rules and interactions convolutes the gaming experience. The weakest game in the trilogy.

This game, when described, sounds like 5 euro games put in a blender and then tipped over the table. There are so many different mechanics at play, most of them quite familiar to anyone who enjoys a good euro. But instead of having a whole bunch of jammed-in, watered-down, half-realised mechanics, they all work beautifully. The deck building has real, significant consequence; the set collection can either waste so much of your time or score you a ton of points if you get it right; the engine building can lead to huge increases in your action efficiency; the strange little castle in the middle leads to oh-so-satisfying explosions of your colourful workers and lengthy combos of collecting bonuses. Every facet of this game shines beautifully and not only that but the game flows smoothly, hardly ever grinding to a halt like most games of this complexity would. I've only had this game for a week but I think Shem & Sam may have outdone themselves with this one. I just hope enough people can see through the convoluted-looking first impression to try it.

Great with 2 players, but seems that it will shine with 3. In any case, artwork is fantastic and game mechanics are as tight as it should be.
