Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

the third child of the West Kingdom is the second one I have played and although it's a complete other game than paladins it has the same complexity. But to my feeling the decisions are less hard than in paladins because here you have to be more opportunistic because of your laid cards. Our first game was finished rather fast so I have to play it again to reconsider. During the second game I had a better feeling because we were more kwown to the rules and knew better what to try. Begin to like it.

2021-05: Not my favorite game in the series, but there is a lot that I like here. I cannot help but compare it to Paladins, which has a fantastic decision space. Your decisions here a bit more limited, but it also plays a bit faster and smoother. I find all of the areas for scoring to be engaging and interesting and the corruption mechanic feels a bit more punishing here than in Paladins which I do like. All in all I am not sure if it will have as much staying power for me as Paladins has, but it is a somewhat tighter design that I may have an easier time getting to the table. 2021-10: 8->9 I find myself lusting for this one more than I thought. I think I like it ever so slightly more than paladins.

I like the card system, but it feel s like it tries to do a lot of things, but doesn't feel them cohesive to me. And the graphic design on the board is awful!
