Variable Phase Order implies that turns may not be played the same way as before and/or after.
Variable Phase Order
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

October 2022 - 6 - 2 plays (all at 2 player) + Fun game, lots of good decisions on how to best produce wine to sell/export/show and dealing with the weather effects. + Lots of seemingly disparate systems that intertwine pretty well during gameplay. + Wine experts are fun since they can be used for additional actions or else to boost your wine score during the fair. = Have not played the 2010 version yet, and all plays have been at 2 players which likely isn't ideal due to less competition for worker placement spots and area majority scoring. - Setup takes awhile. - Was somewhat disappointed overall, was hoping a Lacerta would be better due to lots of hype but wasn't anything groundbreaking. Can certainly see it getting better with more players to provide some more interaction and more plays to get a better handle on strategies. But at this point it is a good game, but not one I'm super excited about playing.

2016 version is an enjoyable mid-weight Euro which might disappoint anyone looking for the heaviness Lacerda is infamous for. The theme is integrated very well, and makes understanding the mechanics very easy. I just found it a little too dry and mathy for my tastes, as it involves constantly doing little sums to calculate the value of your wines. Would like to try the original version which is meant to be more challenging.

Includes both the 2010 and 2016 versions of the game with beautiful components. The expansions are not essential, but adds more variability. Unlike in Viticulture, you need to make wine in Vinhos since you are running your own winery business. I enjoy Vital Lacerda's newer games more. SOLD 2023
