Variable Phase Order implies that turns may not be played the same way as before and/or after.
Variable Phase Order
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Playing Vinhos does feel like managing a real company: the fair makes it impossible to ignore marketing, the bank simulates working capital, and the balancing act between sales and building your estates resembles a juggling act of investing in both short and long-term growth. Additionally, there are plenty of points of interaction to make the game feel more dynamic than simply blocking each other during action selection. While the rules feel intuitive once you get going, the operational complexity and initial rules teaching are barely within my comfort zone. 2010 Reserve is the superior ruleset.

I played this game with my colleagues at work last week and I thought it was excellent, but the beauty of it is that it may be slightly less reopenable. Also, the art is perfect.

I gotta preface this by stating we haven't played the 2010 side and we realized we played the 2016 side wrong at the end. We forgot that you had to spend a barrel to get a end game scoring tile so the end felt like a massive point grab from all players. Now it makes sense and definitely a strategy based on how many barrels you had. I wish we would have played correctly and I wish the player aid or the board reminded us of that. Aside from that this was very enjoyable and I look forward to trying it again. I love that the different vineyards have different abilities. Getting cash can be very difficult which is what makes the game very tight. The decreasing time before the fairs as the years go on is also very awesome. love then action selection in the center with extra costs in certain scenarios. Very tight and thematic game. I think we will like the 2010 side more because the fair felt like a point grab in 2016 and I look forward to the banking and investment through processes that are part of 2010. It feels like you can do a lot in 2016 which would appeal to some but I like figuring out an engine and having more of a challenge where every move matters. Again I love that it offers both for different people and different moods. The player boards felt a notch down from the newer games that have recessed tracks but this probably didn't need that anyway. The quality of components is excellent and I love that they supply spares because we actually needed it this time.
