Vikings: The Board Game
90m - 120m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 13+
This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

Never saw the TV series but they use some images from that. I don't know how it related to the show but I know what I played. It was actually a very interesting resource management game with exploration. Went into this game knowing basically not with no expectation and it turned out to be a half decent game. I would definitely play it again, there are a lot of cool things going on and I had a good time. Player have mini quests they are working on and that helps given them a goal to work towards. I like the use of the payment being "days" but it works like the time in Thebes. You don't want to over spend for anything that would mean less turns in the end. Cool game.

I have not rated this as I have yet to truly play it. I ended up with this game by another game of sorts. The game store we frequent in Abilene,TX has this deal where you can buy games cheaper but you don't know what you are going to get. They wrap games in paper and tell you how many players and how long the game should take and you can buy $20 or $40 games. The $20 games are values at $20 to $45, and the $40 games are valued at $45 to $100. We bought a $40 box and got this game. It probably wouldn't have been one we would have looked at, but it looks like it is going to be fun to play.

I really feel like there is a decent to good game in here some where... but between terrible graphic design (why the fuck are the symbols so small on the cards) to terrible looking components (wood blocks for ships and time markers and score markers, no negative point markers, tiny money tokens) and wonky and weird rules with a terrible rulebook this is getting a three based only on what I think it could be with a rules rewrite.
