Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.

Played the first mission. Decent, not great. Wife won't play this again. I'll definitely play this more in the future solo and I hope to raise the score.

A very nice addition/upgrade to the V&V line - and the one that will see play going forward. I feel that they upgraded the experience over the previous iteration and the gameplay feels rewarding as a result. It is nice to be able to use components of the first game with this one and it is also great to be able to play at higher player counts.
