Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Great solo experience. Have almost finished the campaign and the variety of the people and the locations provide a lot of difference between sessions. I wouldn't call it super deep, but regardless it is still fun and satisfies the puzzle itch.

Under Falling Skies was a long time my favorite (true) solo board game and it is still great and I highly recommend it, but the top spot on my list takes now Warp's Edge.

Great game. Would have preferred they offered a smaller box version without the silly campaign stuff. A must for people wanting to get into solo boardgaming. Simple and clean rules. Great price. EDIT: I changed my mind about the inclusion of a campaign mode. Very welcome and well thought out. For $25, other than Jaws of the Lion (which actually MSRPs for $50 but goes for $30 these days) I can't think of another solitaire board game that offers such rich content for the price. This is a quintessential item for solo boardgamers, nay, any board gamer in general. A true masterpiece.
