Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

Undaunted Normandy and north Afrika were okay, but this one is just aweful. Luck factor is way to high and to decisive.

When I first played Undaunted: Normandy, I quickly thought the system was asking for deformable terrain, to which my mind then went to Stalingrad. Well, here we are in all its enormity. This is Undaunted at its largest and its best. There's a campaign that sees rookies progress into veterans and deaths result in barely field capable replacements. There's deformable terrain. There's the stronger deck building of the original Normandy release. There's scenarios that tend to be stronger than the Normandy release. There's the small rules improvements that have developed over the releases. Scenario design is still a large flaw overall, though. There are quite a few flat scenarios, and others with in-session incentives that seem odd (e.g., an assault without much incentive to actually assault) or miss the mark entirely. If the game's other strengths weren't there--especially the campaign that drives you forward--this would be a big problem. But the drive of the campaign does well in pushing you onwards to the next. It is a bit unfortunate that the final scenario in the campaign was one of the flawed scenarios. There is a small flaw in the campaign. Wins/losses of certain missions are more important than others and the binary nature of the reward system can feel off from how the players feel the campaign is going. By the end, your collection of rewards and the state of the campaign come together in a way that feels arbitrary and, perhaps, overdone.

I played the original Undaunted only once, and then quickly moved to this with a friend. Two quick plays confirm that I really dig this system and I’m looking forward to seeing what a campaign throws at me. Update: after 8 plays, really digging this system. Scenarios are intriguingly distinct, the decisions are fun… if a friend didn’t own this I’d consider picking this up. Great game.
