Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

Had the opportunity to play the first scenario recently. I thought the game had a good sense of tension and I think the deck building and elimination adds an interesting element. It makes the action on the board feel more grounded. The one thing I didn't feel was, when my opponent or I mad a successful attack, that we were losing a real member of the platoon. It felt like trashing a card and that's all. I don't really play this type of game often, and I will admit that roll to hit with no risk mitigation isn't really my style of game. Both of us agreed that we wished there were some alternative to just rolling to hit. Ultimately I thought the game was ok, delivered some good tension, and ended in a reasonable amount of time. I'm not sure it's something I'll keep in my collection for long, but it's not a bad game and I'd be interesting in playing some of the later scenarios.

2021/07/19: Pleasant. Flows pretty smoothly, but pretty abstracted. The deckbuilding is a fun aspect. Plays in less than an hour which is a big plus. Folks that are serious about historical simulations will be disappointed. May be Combat Commander light. Need a print out of the commands to use as a play-aid. 2021/04/08: Sleeved in UltraPro.

Lots of choices here, and the card-based mechanics generate excitement and fun at various times. Solid components and just the right level of complexity for my taste in the first scenario... but, sadly, after a few plays I have to call the game both "fiddly" and "wristy." This becomes particularly tedious in the larger scenarios -- way too much housekeeping for this light wargamer.... Also, Scouts are overpowered, and games can "lock up" with neither player wanting to move. Very disappointing.
