Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Interessantes Thema aber mechanisch sehr kleinteilig und regelaufwändig. Optisch auch nicht der Bringer.

This is one of the heaviest games from these designers. Very good game with simple actions but deep deep decisions.

Initial rating, based on two 2-player games. This is giving Madeira a run for its money for heaviest game I own. I definitely like it much better than Teotihuacan - which felt very mechanical and devoid of emotion - but probably not as much as Marco Polo. The game is hard, and constantly at risk for inducing AP, but like Marco Polo, I can see it flowing very smoothly once all players are familiar enough with the game. Gameplay, and particularly the versatility of the dice and the way they work is superb. I love the frequently chaining effects when you complete a row or column of your philosopher's stone. The included player aid could have been so much better, for example by not having the wrong essences printed on them, but also by including some kind of useful guide for the possible actions, free actions and reactions you can take.
