Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. Almost sandboxy in the freedom of routes you can take but there's a gently mounting tension throughout due to the jostling for the particular spots / tiles you want, the fickle demands of the people and the constant march of time. You'll have one or two primary focus points yet you'll want to respond to the changing board position. And all this has to be filtered through the delicious Mancala action selection. Fast became my favourite Feld - not as breezy as Castles of Burgundy, but ultimately more satisfying.

Have fun playing 12 mini games and adding up your points at the end. Trajan is a brain-burning Feld game that's more boring than being at work. If you want a game where you're struggling against the design for the entire game, and all of the disparate elements feel totally disconnected, this is the game for you. Though I pursued a strong military strategy, I was destroyed in the Forum and finished almost forty points behind my father-in-law. Ultimately, I felt like I was playing 12 different mini-games rather than a single cohesive whole. If you want to keep balanced in your head the relative strengths of each little mini-game and relatively how much of each you should pursue based on what your opponents are doing, Trajan may be the game for you. One piece of praise: the rondel element was extremely thought-provoking, but one of the best parts of the game -- I'd love to see that rondel mechanic spun off into its own game. I'm not sure what that would look like, but the actual action-selection in Trajan was quite interesting. Recommended if point salad is your thing, I guess. Can I damn with faint praise? I don't think Trajan is a good game.

Works great with the solo variant: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/120285/trajan-optimus-solo-rules-trajan and https://myautoma.github.io/#trajan
