Played 4 games now, starting to get a feel for it. I will definitely play it more and it's possible my opinion will change but as of now it feels like a 6/10. We've tried all the factions, in different combinations and also the grudge cards and terrible tactics. While they do mix things up a bit and make the centre of the board more important, we didn't find that they make a big difference. Our game has gone quite long, most of them actually close to an hour and I think that's part of the issue. Maybe we're thinking too much and should rather just play, though I feel like that just leads to the game devolving into a war of attrition where each player loses one token every turn till there is one man standing (which happened to us in the first 2 games). I thought it would be a quick game but there is enough to consider with the board state that turns can take some time. In terms of balance between the factions it seems ok. We haven't found any to be overpowered but it's definitely useful to have one that allows you to move other members of the same faction as it allows them to stay together as a unit and provide a threat bonus. All this being said, I still feel compelled to play more later so not going to sell it

In an age where it feels like every new game is political cutthroat or co-op with variance, it's pretty refreshing to find a game that is just a good old fashioned 1v1 battle to the death. The amount of work that has gone into this game is incredible, from the packaging to the artwork to the lore. Make sure you pick up this game with the little dice tray/action tracker to help guide your turn actions for quicker mastery. Because the game does take a little bit of handholding to get a hang of the rules, the more advanced rules are tucked away as "unlockable" achievements which are also included in the box. As you meet certain conditions through normal gameplay, you can open additional cards that can be used to add strategies for specific combinations of token types (i.e. Goblins + Flying machines). This is a box you'll want to just open up and show your game group all the great stuff in it, even if you're not playing. Put this one on your shelf!

A neat tactical 2 player game with low luck (but just enough to prevent perfect planning). The special powers are simple enough to internalize, but they combine in neat ways in team fights. Slightly puzzle-y. Physically compact. I hope there are expansions in the future. Arrived 2022 May. KS edition with fancy bags and 10 of each token type.
