Adds great feel and hilarious factors to the game, and makes the original game more balanced in a sense. The overall playing time increases by 30 minutes or so.

I won a prototype version of TEK:HC. I had not played TEK previously so this weekend I got together with friends to play the original version and the expansion so I could get a good feel for how HC changes the game. I am not going to review TEK individually here, but I will say that I enjoy the game, though I did find it fairly simplistic. I believe Hero's Call brings quite a bit of depth that TEK was lacking. The new hero meeple mechanic adds significant diversity between the players, but doesn't dominate the game as I first thought it would. They add nice flavor and interesting choices -- research vs promotion, active vs retired -- to an individual's strategy. (Edit: The silver resource can only be gained from peaks, not trade or "any resource" abilities, so my critique below is inaccurate) The other, and in my opinion more significant, addition to the game is the Silver resource. This is mined from the new peaks region type, and acts as a wild resource with 0 war power. I do have concerns that this resource could be over-powered, especially if it can be obtained through trade. The limited rule set I received did not restrict trading for silver, nor did it restrict receiving silver from regions such as ruins or tundra (in which you can receive one of "any" resource type). During my plays it seemed like everything devolved into maxing silver and mana, converting ore and food to silver when the trade action was invoked. I do have some other questions / suggestions for some of the individual hero cards that I will probably send directly to Gamelyn, but overall I think it's a great expansion. I probably would not purchase TEK as a stand-alone game, but I'm pretty sure I'll be grabbing the full package when the Kickstarter goes live. Thanks Gamelyn for the opportunity to preview Tiny Epic Kingdoms: Hero's Call!

Great use of "follow action" mechanic = little down time. the expansion really adds a lot to the base game
