Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

auf Tabletopia ausprobiert. Dort ist die Grafik zu klein, kann ich nicht empfehlen, aber das Spiel selber scheint sehr gut zu sein. Kickstarter All-In

As my wife was born in Bulgaria I was directly interested in this game when I came across it and read about the Bulgarian mythology that it contains. Even though I still got a prototype the material is great. Amazing artwork, cool minis, double layer boards, nice custom dice - this completely hooked me! The game has four phases: In the prophecy phase you randomly draw three prophecies (the core game contains five of them and more are available in an expansion), based on these prophecies you choose three heroes (out of five in the core game) with their asymmetrical skills that fit best to be successful when one of the prophecies becomes reality. Then you travel back to the past to built up the map (by randomly drawing map tiles and placing them) for the game and level up your heroes by improving their virtues and their character individual powers (shevitsa) and equipping them with artifacts. When the last map tile is placed the past phase ends and in the present phase one of the three prophecies is drawn and you have to deal with it in the future phase. Each prophecy contains a box with new cards & tokens that will be used based on the individual rules for each prophecy that you now have to check in the future book. Did you prepare your heroes right for what’s to come? As I said I still had a prototype version of the game and there were still some small issues with some rules and text on the cards. Here @boarderia was very responsive to clarify all of them and they will be fixed in the final version. I absolutely love the game - the concept that you built up the map and your heroes first in each game brings in such a high variability and especially in the beginning it is really tough to find the right way to do that to be successful in the future phase. The Kickstarter starts today - if you like games where you have to level up your heroes to be successful check this one out. Link in my bio.

Early rating after a couple of plays. Damn, it's good! Nice balance, great variety of scenarios, really tough choices on character development. We like it!
