Thrash’n Roll
45m - 90m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 12+
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Missed opportunity with the theme has been mentioned enough, although if you ignore the thrash metal part, is is thematic very strong. Playability is not so smooth with a lot of weird rules. Not enough tested and feels like a rushed final product.

Note: I was not affected by the big problems this KS had, which I am thankful. I ended up not getting the upgrade pack from the 2nd crowdfunding, but I live fine with those 15€ lost, since I knew they were a shot in the dark. I like the game, quite a bit. It misses something for me to get more than the 8. But it is not that far away. I liked the premise, the mechanism and the actions. I think the tempo was one of my problems: you ended up only doing 2 singles and 1 album usually. Maybe 2 albums. I wanted to do a bit more. It is a shame there was no solo mode to play, added to the fact I couldn't get anyone interested to play it more often. I guess it would have grown on me with more plays. With this, I ended up selling it with some level of regret.

This game has plenty of problems, but the theme saves it for me. The only thing that can be really bothersome about it is the dice rolling, which have just a tad more randomness than I would like. I've been toying with the idea of replacing the d6 you roll for singles, albums, and touring with a d4 to minimize it a bit. Aside from that, I really enjoy this game quite a bit. It simulates the rise to stardom as a rock/metal band in a pretty family-friendly package.
