In The Witcher: Old World, you become a witcher — a professional monster slayer — and immerse yourself in the legendary universe of The Witcher franchise.
Set years before the saga of Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher: Old World explores a time when monsters roamed the Continent in greater numbers, creating a constant peril that required the attention of expertly trained monster slayers, known as witchers. Five competing schools trained their adepts through brutal regimes, and once fully prepared, these now-recognized witchers set off to explore the land, seeking trouble and adventures and helping others for coin.
In this competitive adventure board game, 2-5 players travel across a vast map, embarking on masterfully penned quests, encountering and making ambiguous moral choices, fighting monsters — and sometimes brawling with other witchers to defend their school’s honor!
The game lets players construct their own unique decks of cards by choosing from a wide range of abilities: attacks, dodges, and witcher combat magic — known as “signs”. Through card synergy, players aim to achieve powerful combos as they utilize their witcher school’s hallmark abilities to their full potential. Quests, battles, and even dice poker allow each player to earn money, obtain new items, and train their skills.
The first player to acquire 4-6 trophies, with the number being set at the start of play, wins the game instantly. You can obtain trophies by killing monsters, instigating and winning chaotic tavern brawls against another witcher, training attributes to their highest level, and resolving certain quests throughout their adventure.
The game will include a Solo Mode that will allow for a solitaire adventure on the Continent.

An experience every Witcher fan will enjoy. However, non-witcher fans may not enjoy entirely since the game takes most of its power from the theme.

With Kickstarter expansions easy ten. Without Monster trail maybe 9 and without kickstarter stuff probably 8,5. Adventure pack gives longevity. Plays under 1h with 1 player.

Review in Progress TLDR; An artistic delight, full of theme with a simple rules, greatly elevated by its expansions. Game elements are amazing, high quality material, great art (although much reused from other CDPR games). Board/card/mini quality. Rules/Complexity. Simple. Rarely did I have to check a rule twice or three times. Great use of icons on the board. Navigating the board. Event decks. There is a great verity and each card has two choices. Event cards may lead to quests. Leveling/trophies. Cards/Deck building. Gambling is a small game in itself, and should be available at each location. Combat. More complexity of cards. Some are too simple. It is fun to combo cards. Some rounds you can only play a single card; had a few rare moments where I had zero cards thus no combat turn. Balance of characters and card colors? Trails. If you own the expansions it raises the quality of the game. The special mechanics added for the monsters make battles more dangerous and fun. Or a cooperative mode with the Wild Hunt. Minis over tokens. An additional character card per deck, bombs, playing as mages. -----------------------Other Thoughts----------------------- I have seen complaints about losing progress--as a tabletopper & someone who DMs--I can explain the narrative of what is happening. I would of liked story elements as sidebars in the rulebook (small snippets of short stories) to explain this to others. Not a knock on Old World, however there was no addition to the Witcher lore from this universe. Another way those small snippets would of helped. The Witcher is so lore rich it could use a story driven boardgame; expand the universe.
