The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

Excellent story and character progression. It's like playing Diablo and Warcraft in Isofar. The poker chips are such a clever way to implement the battles.

This is a game I might have been interested in. I really dig solo games that are made for 1-2 players frequently. But it’s all white characters. And I told myself I’d stop supporting that kind of crap. Maybe a second edition some day will fix the issue. But I feel like it’s been said more than enough that I don’t want to cut companies any more slack. It’s just dang racist.

Not enough butter spread over too much bread. Amazing potential and world, but heavily marred by tedious random encounters/crafting grind, in order to create an unnecessary 300 hour game.
