Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

The core strategy seemed pretty obvious, and the game felt like it was 2 turns longer than it needed to be.

I wanted to like it more than I did. It's very pretty:) Only played once but it felt like the game went 2 rounds too many as the final two rounds was all about foraging and offering and little else. Not sure about replayability either. While the tiles for the star map will be drawn differently every game and shape your options, the board is static. It can also be very irritating to have the better chips come out when the other players pick first and lousy ones come out when you have the chance to pick first:) We did really like the way scoring worked however. There were a couple of things that scored off of how long/big you made it and each one affected future scoring (as the value for each size decreased if someone scored that size that round).
