Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Captain Quirk
Perfect example of a game that looks great, with nice components and artwork, but the gameplay is trash. Did the gameplay designers even watch the show? Because if they did, they'd know that the main point of the series is to avoid war and conflict. And what do they make with the series name stamped on it? A beat-the-other-player-up game. This is Dragon Prince, not Dragon Ball Z. All those maps and the possibility of a story somehow following the series and they end up being interchangeable punching locations. Wow. Just wow.

+ Neat charging system where you have to manage your character and cards over the span of multiple turns to get the max out of your resources; The theme of the characters and their personalities comes through pretty well. - I am finding out more and more that I just don't enjoy the tactical 1-vs-1 style of game as much as I ever think I will. Why it's previously-owned: I just don't like these tactical games in board game form. It's hard to say why... the system here is good, but I don't want to play it and my kids weren't requesting it either.

Components are excellent. The minis are especially good. I like the concept but it's just poorly executed. Maps seem meaningless as we always ended up just standing in a huddle. Then the first team to get a knockout ended up winning. Maybe worth getting if you just want the minis. Should be renamed The Dragon Prince: Spawncamped
