Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

This was a thrilling coop and we barely won our first play through at two player on normal difficulty. The main con is the randomness of the cards that just keep hammering you. At two players you also lack a diverse group to be able to do much in certain areas as it is really costly. I think this is primarily designed for 4+ players where each person has a focus. At two players you are stuck playing the Admiral and Engineer to have a chance with the Engineer having to be a must. Without that you need to cycle through the deck too much that is impossible at two players with a character that helps with that. Then things like ships and the lab become impossible because you won't see the right cards. Its definitely thematic. I think I would give flashpointe an edge on this game for a group based coop because its a little more streamline, less constant punishment, and all the characters are good. If they could scale it a little differently for 2 players then I think I could justify owning it.

Honestly this game feels hopeless most of the time and while I do enjoy challenges this game just doesn't really cut it for me.

A fun time especially if you like co op. Haven't yet played a game where it actually feels like we're winning, victory always comes as a surprise ?
