Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

This is a great co-op with a space theme. I'm not enough of a Trekkie to see a huge Star Trek influence, and from my perspective no connection is required; it stands on its own without needed to know that universe (fwiw I feel the same way about Star Trek Ascendancy, which I also love). It follows what I guess is now a very standard Pandemic-style co-op system, where the event cards throw wrenches and problems at you all game. The board and actions are different, though, and different enough that this feels fresh. The large number of roles and the big range of player counts give a lot of flavor, theme, and replayability. Alhough I don't have a ton of plays yet (and no wins) so not totally sure about replayability; it's possible that we will figure out some optimal moves and grow tired of the game, but I don't see that happening for at least 10 plays or more, and that's well worth the purchase price in my book. It's fun and not overly long or laborious. Definitely appreciated it more in our second play, though - we cut our losses in the first play and switched over to the "quick-play rules" (which just omit half of the event cards but make it brutally hard) to end it, knowing we wanted to try again with better game knowledge from the start. Lots of fun the second time around and after. Plays well with kids (at least my 11 and 9 year-olds).

Wanted to like for the Star Trek adjacent theme, art is cool. However, gameplay is same old solo style coop. I totally checked out during the game and it didn’t impact their performance at all.

Short cooperative game that gives a feel of Space Alert, but a little to simplistic for me to enjoy as much as Space Alert.
