This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Preliminary rating of 7.5, but I need more plays to feel confident in the rating. Quite disappointed that the solo mode was not included in the box, but it is what it is. I'm surprised at how well it played at 2 player for an area influence game. I can see AP being a problem for folks, and the game might be 1 round too long, but it's satisfying to always fill the board up with the statues.

This one was too abstract for me. Now, I did love the action selection mechanism of three concentric circles with action icons on them. They're divided into "pizza slices" and you select one slice that has three actions on them, one from each circle. This mechanism provided some very interesting choices indeed as you tried to find the best three actions to support your plans. But the focus of the game is placing pieces on a grid, both your own and some neutral ones. In some cases, the facing of the pieces matter. In short, you're aiming for placement bonuses and majority in scoring phases using your own and neutral pieces. I was last player, and while there was an action icon I could have selected to go first, I found going last to be more of a benefit than a penalty. After my opponents went, I could place pieces to one-up them. I don't know if that's a fatal flaw, but my friends lamented that they couldn't choose to go last and get the last placement. There's only an action to take 1st or 2nd, not last. I managed to get some really good placements and locked down a runaway, 25-point victory. Not a bad game, my rating just reflects how I feel about it relative to my tastes. I had a similar reaction to the grid-based game, Tekhenu - Yuck!

This is a good game. Don't get me wrong...but I pick at things. Most notably, what people are going to have a problem with is the micro-scoring. Scoring rounds 2-5 is a challenge. Scoring takes nearly as long as taking actions. In addition, it can be difficult to weigh all your options with the rondel, which inspires AP. I played with 2, which is fine, but this is one of those games where you don't want to play with anything other than 3 players, which limits its market severely.
