Terra Mystica: Fire & Ice has the original factions brace themselves for new competitors: Yetis – the masters of power, Ice Maidens – who adore their Temples, Acolytes – whose entire life is focused on the cults, and Dragonlords – who use their power to create volcanoes. And as if this wasn’t enough, there are two more factions, Shapeshifters and Riverwalkers, who ignore the most basic of rule of one faction, one terrain type. (Inconceivable to the Halflings!)

Rating with base game. A lot of great modules with this one. I always use the variable turn order based on passing, and it is fun to have alternative boards to play on, even though I'm not so hardcore into this game that I felt I had exhausted all of the possibilities with the board in the base game. The alternative final scoring goals are a nice little addition. I haven't had a chance to really explore the new races in depth, but for me there were enough options in the base game (and I play this infrequently enough), that I haven't fully explored all of those. Apparently people more invested in the game than I seem to think there are problems with certain of the new factions in terms of balance, and there have been official errata/rule changes with respect to two of them (Shapeshifters and Riverwalkers). Consequently, this means I now am the proud owner of two player boards that are printed with errors that have been corrected in later printings. I don't play this enough (or the particular impacted factions enough) to warrant seeking out replacements.

A great expansion! The new board is very nice and the new races are... well, interesting. They push-pull without necessitating a new land terrain and, while that's economical and efficient, it makes them a little bit fiddly. The added diversity is nice, but the new races lack the cleaner feel of the original ones. Still, a fantastic expansion for a wonderful game.

This expansion borders on a must-have, if only for the new rules for turn order. It's great to have a new map to play on as well. The new factions are neat, albeit perhaps a bit underwhelming?
