In Action Point (AP) Allowance System games, each player is allotted a certain amount of points per round. These points can be spent on available actions, until the player does not have enough remaining to "purchase" any more actions.
Action Point Allowance System
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Obviously this has a good theme - they ought to sell it at Edinburgh zoo now that they have the pandas as it may sell by the bucketload. It's visually very interesting. Some of the play is a wee bit reminiscent of a stripped down Santiago. It's not as clean and deep as that one by a long chalk, but it is a decent game. The cards and tiles offer lots of luck.- you can draw pink bamboo on cards bu not on tiles for instance, which hampers you massively, but then I'm not one of those measly party-popping gamers who insists that every game needs to have minimum luck. It's nice to have a bit of variety. The more advanced rules would be beyond a lot of kids under ten on the first play as the game is a lot meatier than it's theme suggests or than you would expect in a "kids' game." I think it's more of a family game really. As a game I'd give it a 5, but since it's got a great theme is good, light fun and has wonderful bits I think a 6 is more reasonable.

Good family game with one of the best eye appeal I have seen in a game. Sure bet for child and occasional gamers.

Great production, but the mechanics didn't appeal - not very interesting. Particularly frustrating is the 'unintentional screw'. Messing up someone else's plans in pursuing your own is all well and good but in this game it's often completely accidental and therefore unsatisfying to both sides. Possibly a great family game, but for me personally it's a low scorer.
