If you own Risk and want something with a bit more, Steam Watchers may hit the spot. If you own Scythe and want an alternative keep playing Scythe. This game has a lot of potential but misses out. Firstly you only really have three options 1. Move, 2. Defend 3. Do nothing. There needs to be four or five options especially when 1 is Do Nothing. Secondly the game is far to short. Maximum 5 rounds. Imagine playing either Risk or Scythe and only having 5 turns before the game ends. It would be better having more difficult end game options. Thirdly and connected to the second problem. If you are in the middle of the board to start and get attacked from both sides, you might as well go home because you have already lost Forth combat is obvious. If you have more troops and enough energy you can just blast out your opponents. There isn't any real suprise. Fifth there is no catch up element, once you are behind and struggling, good luck. Needs a tweaks and a longer game option.

The game fell flat pretty quickly. The mechanics work together fine, but thats it. The combat is like Scythe but worse, the Order placement is like Forbidden Stars/GoT2nd but worse and the scoring/power ramping is tedious at best (especially if you do not go for the Steam placement action). It is possible to have player elimination really early in the game and there is a feeling of "Rich gets Richer" since the player with the most steam is also the player who can have the most unit on the board. At least the game is quick and easy to learn.

It's a quite good game with great theme and materials, but it is really hard to catch up if you do one or two bad decisions (or got bad luck on steam cards) in early game. Could be frustrating for some players.
