Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Way too long and complicated for what it is, but has it's fun moments. The iconography could be more readable and the rules are a mess. I would prefer, if this game would take 1-2 hours less to play.

It's good, but a lot of the imagery is so dark it doesn't really look like anything. Like Mage Knight, I need to play it a lot more so I can learn what the icons are for and don't have to keep looking at the reference. It's fun to play the Star Trek characters.

Great solo game. I still do not like it as much as a two or more player game. Good deck building, challenging puzzles and satisfying when you can defeat tough enemies. It can drag on a bit if you play a full six rounds, but still a great game.
