In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration.Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

It's good, but a lot of the imagery is so dark it doesn't really look like anything. Like Mage Knight, I need to play it a lot more so I can learn what the icons are for and don't have to keep looking at the reference. It's fun to play the Star Trek characters.

MK is one of my favorite games, and I'm a huge ST fan, so this was a no-brainer. I like that this isn't simply a reskin: certain changes have made the game less fiddly/convoluted, though the game is still complex. The away team mechanic is interesting (and thematic) but IMO unnecessary because it severely lessens the usefulness of units from how they were in the base game. The designers have also gotten rid of the day/night cycle, there are no fortified enemies, partial blocking of damage is now allowed, and you can attack from an adjacent space. The end result is that this game is really fun, but also a little too easy. Being able to attack from an adjacent space means you don't need to generate movement before a battle, making it much easier to generate attack. Similarly, since you can partially block damage, it's not a big deal if you take wounds (since you will be able to reduce them with partial blocks). Overall, it's Mage Knight Lite: still a fun, epic experience, but not one that will put you through the ringer.

A lot to this game for sure. Played solo and that is the way I see playing it exclusively. Really enjoyed it, looking to play more.
