Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

Do you NEED more games that this one? Isn't it more simple? Sure, you want Lisboa, you want Brass Birmingham, you want On Mars and Gloomhaven too. But wouldn't you actually just play a quiet, unassuming yet beautiful design with neat ideas, a well implemented contract delivery loop with a little twist? The cards have holes which changes what you receive when you place them on different tiles, there's a neat day/night cycle, an advanced mode if you get adventurous on a sunday afternoon. It's the platonic ideal of the gateway game in my opinion. Fast enough to learn, quick enough to play and play again, with a beautiful box that you won't be ashamed to show your non-boardgamer friends who come to your house and usually judge the trolls, elves and Lookout games in your shelf.

Really enjoyable worker placement ressource management combo game. Not overly complicated, flows alright. Gave me the impression that it was sliightly longler that it should. Too bad it didn’t click to the rest of the gamegroup.

A nice, light, breezy game that still requires you to think a little on your turn. The game is largely "tactical-plus": that is, you are mostly reacting turn-by-turn to the rapidly changing board state and the refilling contract market, but you can still plan a couple turns in advance due to the cards in your hand and by tracking the resources in your opponents' ships. It's a little fiddly to constantly remove cards, refill the market, and shift the board, but turns are so fast the game doesn't seem bogged down too much (especially if all players help out with the upkeep). The game plays beautifully with 2, which is probably my favorite player count. A great filler when you feel like something light but not mindless.
