Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

I have played it twice so far. Once with the easy side and one the abilities and had a good time. Adding the special abilities adds a lot so I would recommend to use them directly if you don't play with kids/newbies. It's a very attractive game the board is beautiful. And quite unique as it's up to 8 players and semi-cooperative. Yes there is a part of luck but do not get turned of but bad loosers who put reviews. There are enough parameters especially with the abilities to elaborate a real strategy. Some games are won on strategy, others on a die, but I would that that when the difference is made on a die it's just because both teams were just equally good. Last thing the theme is great, feels like a survivor (Kholan Lanta pour les intimes, n'est-ce pas madame Bouilla?) treasure hunt :)

Family adventure game. The two teams thing is cool, the game is easy to teach and fun to play, with great art, but is really light. Played once

I really enjoyed playing Sol! I really like it that the game as its core is very simple and is easy to learn, but yet gets strategic and you find yourself planning your routs along the board based on what clue cards you have played to be close to the statue when it appears but also keeping an eye at your opponents to not loose the medallion. And its really fun to plan your moves based on the very unique and fun Special powers all your character has. And the theme and artwork is just amazing! Very glad i got this game :)
