Skytear Horde (Kickstarter – Deluxe Pledge)
1 - 3 Players
Ages 10+
The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.

They have absolutely CRUSHED the solo/cooperative play experience with this game, especially solo. This game is simple to set up and learn, yet has so much customization and re-playability even just out of the core box. Gameplay is so fun, daresay ADDICTIVE, you'll find yourself not being able to put this game down and coming back for another round. This is a game that CCG players will love, board game players will love, the art and story are amazing, just everything about this game knocks it out of the park!

EDIT: Upped the rating after some recent plays. Also, expansion is confirmed to be added to Kickstarter later this year. Fun solo experience with a lot of initial replayability. I had a blast all the way from learning to play up to taking on the highest difficultly challenges with a custom-built deck. I think anyone that is into CCGs will enjoy what this game has to offer. That being said, the out-of-the-box rulebook needs some serious work and the creators are actively working on an FAQ and revised rulebook to help with the issues that you will inevitably run into when learning how to play. Deck building is limited by the Castles that you choose, so each deck you build has to be paired with a specific castle. This does help with keeping the game balanced but takes away from the customizable aspect, and I felt the game was nudging me in certain directions as I tried to build my own decks. Gotta be honest, it does feel amazing when you get off a custom-built combo to swing the game back in your favor and make the carefully planned decisions necessary to 'bend but not break' until you get the combo off. However, once you get on top of the horde you will likely just be riding the aftermath of the swing play to the finish line, and the finish doesn't feel as satisfying as the climax. I will say that when the expansion is released I will 100% be getting it because the bones of the game are very strong and it just needs that extra push.
