I could see die-hard Sherlock Holmes fans enjoying reading their way through the long narratives and taking detailed notes to deduce an answer to these story-puzzles, only to be shown how terrible they did when compared to the answers worked out by the great Sherlock Holmes. For me, however, this is as much a game as working on word problems in a logic course or math class. I would rather take a class or even work more hours at my current job than play this, because at least I would end up learning something useful or get paid, rather than just wasting time in tedium.

I prefer the individual cases to the Jack the Ripper cases, because I find that knowing you aren’t going to solve it on the first second and third case makes your actual aim per case difficult. However, the game itself is a lot of fun and the writing really immersed me into the setting. I will definitely be buying the Thames Murders and recommending this one to others.

This is an excellent game for those who like to read, research, reason and write. It's not for everyone. Our team just finished our third case and we are loving the game. Minor issues with spelling in a couple of places are not enough to drop my scoring of this game. Some aspects that seem to be mistakes in the rules or material resources turn out to be limits of my own imagination. My wife and I eagerly anticipate each game. But since there are only 10 cases in the box, we are spreading out our sessions to make the game last longer. Each session takes us about 2.5 hours to complete and we have been totally absorbed in the game-play for the entire duration. Great game!
