Prince John is coming to Nottingham! Players, in the role of merchants, see this as an opportunity to make quick profits by selling goods in the bustling city during the Prince’s visit. However, players must first get their goods through the city gate, which is under the watch of the Sheriff of Nottingham. Should you play it safe with legal goods and make a profit, or risk it all by sneaking in illicit goods? Be mindful, though, as the Sheriff always has his eyes out for liars and tricksters and if he catches one, he very well may confiscate those goods for himself!

A fun easy game. There are definitely strategies and mind games involved but it is easy enough that someone not into board games can play and enjoy it.

Fun game, but a lot of the victory is reliant on luck of the draw. There seems to be nothing you can do to stop a player from playing honestly and that particular strategy wins games more often than not. The contraband is only worth so much, and to beat the bonuses from the King and Queen end-game point boosts, you need a LOT of contraband. Even players mixing the two strategies win games less often than players going 100% honest. There needs to be some downside to only putting honest goods in your bag, because right now, I could draw 5 Chickens, put them in the bag, and practically win the King's Bonus. There is also no incentive for the player to bribe the Sheriff, so there's no down-side to not giving the Sheriff any money at all and reaping huge benefits anyways.

Only reason I am even giving this a 2 is maybe some groups have fun with it. Every group I have tried it with has not enjoyed it though. I would rather play Phase 10. Sorry Tom Vassal. But I would!
