Sheriff of Nottingham: Merry Men contains five modules that can be added to the base game, as well as the option of including a sixth player. The five modules are:
Catbug
4-6 Black market and Special Orders: They greatly improve the tactics and balance of the game and they're super easy to implement. Should be included in every game of Sheriff! 6-player Deputies : It's OK. It's just not that much different from the Sheriff. I understand why the open discard-pile is removed, keeping track of any card between five other players is on the edge of being ridiculous, so the streamlining of making cards fully random is warranted but also less interesting. The free form deal-making is also less spicy with two Deputies. The game lacks a clever rule-set where the deputies can make formal deals with the merchants. -------------------------- IDEA / VARIANT A simple way to more effectively play with the trust mind-game between the deputies would be to give each deputy a set of cards with different options on them: accept bribe, search bag, let merchant go, etc. During each inquiry the Deputies would have to secretly choose one card, put it face down on the table and flip it up simultaneously to resolve the interrogation. (A bit like Cosmic Encounter!) This I think would greatly improve the excitement of playing Deputy and the dynamic working with a partner. The cards would have to have some sort of interaction between them to make it interesting, for example one Deputy choosing 'Accept bribe' and one choosing 'Let go' might make the Deputy accepting the bribe getting double the amount simply because he went behind the other Deputies back. But fooling your Deputy partner too many times might have some repercussions, like losing a good for every X-2 times you do it or something. The Deputies choosing the same options, i.e. staying loyal and cooperating, would have to have some incentive as well. -------------------------- I have yet to try the Merry Men and the Law module.

This expansion encourages players to bluff, which is a very good thing. It also offers a very interesting way to play with 6 players, which I think is much more enjoyable than playing with fewer people. It also almost solves one of the main problems of the game.
