Shelfie Stacker (Kickstarter – The Shelfie Stacker Pledge)
20m - 40m
1 - 4 Players
Ages 8+
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
Variable Phase Order implies that turns may not be played the same way as before and/or after.

Unfortunately, this was a complete miss for myself and my kids (9/11). That is the first for a Shem game especially since I really enjoy the Kingdom series and Noctiluca has become a top 10 family filler. This one wound up being too **fiddly and chaotic with the placement of dice from boxes to shelfs to character cards and back. In theory this should be a fun little alternative to Azul but the card play execution just wasn't there maybe the other cards would make it better but I really didn't even feel the need to go there. The base scoring is pretty straight with players racing to achieve active and end game bonuses for additional scoring opportunities. As for the theme, its was non-existent for us. ** Important to note: With kids, no matter how many times you tell them, they naturally want to grab dice out of the box and immediately start putting stuff them on the shelf and then use a cards ability to change a dice, in the rush to do this its often forgotten to check the dice value. Sometimes, my daughter is especially guilty of this, a player wants to undo what they did and does not remember the dice value. Kids do this more than adults of course but it does become distracting when your trying to maximize your characters ability and shifting dice from boxes to shelves to character cards and back.

This is one I knew I had to try once I saw the Kickstarter for it. Glad I purchased it! Acts as both a great filler game for seasoned gamers AND a gateway game for newer games. Fits a dice drafting itch that Sagrada sometimes leaves me wishing I had, but not quite so overwhelming as Roll Player—this game sits neatly in between those two games. If you buy it, I highly recommend acquring the Deluxe Deliveries Expansion, as well.
