Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

Fun party game for two teams of investigators, played in real time. One member of each team must suggest movements for the team’s pawn in a hexagon grid. But he cannot talk, just use images as clues for teammates.

I would really like to get this more often to the table, but in the last couple of years we have so much good party games which are more streamlined. I feel it's an unfortunate compromise to play with this which we are usually not willing to make, if we are in the mood for something short, fun, chaotic - which Amsterdam all is by the way.

Very similar to Codenames: Pictures but with one big advantage: both teams play simultaneously. No more waiting eons for Bill to come up with his word and number. Bill can take as long as he likes while I continue giving clues to my team mates. Other than simultaneous play, the other key difference from Codenames: Pictures is the fact that the "clues" you give your team mates are not words but instead cards with weird pictures on them that are somehow supposed to tell your team where they are supposed to move to on the board. But are they supposed to know where to go because the card you gave them has some red on it and this other card on the game board has some red; or because there's a tiger on the card you gave them and this other card on the map has a cat; or because in the card you gave them the tiger is holding a book and this other card on the game board has a library in the background? This can be fun and frustrating, but mostly fun. It's a good light party game, but it's not one that I would play over and over again. It only sees daylight once or twice a year.
