Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Not perfect, but it's one of the best & most content heavy root expansions. The moles are one of my favourite factions & most likely why you're buying this expansion. Their swayed minister mechanic is interesting but also their tunnelling ability helps mix up the base game more. They were a desperately needed, as they provide a new militant (aka high reach) faction so you can swap out the cats & birds more often. The corvids however, are by far the least played faction for me. They're interesting & I do need to play them more however. The final main draw of this expansion is the 2 new maps, they are both interesting & unique in their own way. I don't use them anywhere near as much as the base maps, but it's nice to have options to mix things up now & again.

Moles are a powerhouse and add a new big army faction to the game. Crows are fun, but unfortunately kind of weak and won't really be seeing many wins. The new boards are fantastic.

The rules of Root continue to be its biggest hurdle. The player playing the Corvid Conspiracy had to search how a mechanic worked and that mechanic was so often missed, it was a top result. When you play a card, you place a warrior in each clearing matching the card. The persistent usability issues are a real disappointment in this series.
