Roll Player Adventures (Kickstarter)

The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

9/10 It’s more RPA, which is not a bad thing. Another chance to return to Ulos is always a good time. The professions add a nice touch. Kinda work as the backstories in Nefra’s Judgement. ADD 1: I dare say that this storyline is even better than the first one. Also, a lot of references to characters that we later meet in the base game.

More Roll Playing Adventures. I liked the original and like the expansion as it's more of the same (in a good way). If you didn't like the original, this will not change your mind. I like the length of this expansion; long enough to see your party/characters satisfactorily grow, and didn't overstay it's welcome. Another interesting story which was well written.

RPA was the most story-rich adventure I'd ever played, and Galpax's Secret continues that tradition with delightful stories, choices, and plot pivots. If you didn't like the dice manipulation puzzles in the first one, though, GS won't change your mind. Proof of its long-term impact, the series has caused me to reevaluate my appreciation of traditional combat-only grinds like Runebound, Descent, and dozens of others. I now understand that venturing forth in a fantasy land doesn't solely have to be about death and dismemberment. Professions are also fun, integrating character-specific story elements into GS similar to how Nefras's Judgment added backstories to the original. Too bad RPA still shoots itself in the foot with harsh success penalties. On the plus side, the dreaded "one-shot boss" handicaps - permanent negative effects triggered by defeating villains too quickly - don't appear in this expansion. But there are other severe punishments for doing well, which singlehandedly drop my rating a point. Another oddity: I'm pretty sure every foe we defeated ran away instead of dying. We need better aim.
