Ride the Rails
45m - 60m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 12+
This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.

Man, I love this game. It's so simple but so subtle and interesting. Love the overall look but wish the wooden pieces were a bit bigger. NO SLEEVES

Interesting sandbox train game where the players take six turns and get to invest, expand and transport passengers over up to six railroad “companies” (colours). The game is very easy to pick up and play, and kind of relies on the players “cooperating” for it to play out in a satisfactory manner. I’m not sure what it is with Ian O’Toole and the colour orange, but please make it stop.

Ride the Rails plays like a painful out of body experience. Glancing into the past at any given moment, I have not the slightest idea of my arrival nor any rationale for what leads me into the future. Lethargy grows in the rippled decision tree dragged alongside so many little bitty actions. Many question arise during the experience, and Ride the Rails is content to answer none of them. By no means a bad game, I just don't care for Ride the Rail's calculable optimization, made worse I suspect when played with a group intent on maximizing every possible action (I'm guilty of this, too). Perhaps there is some fascinating discoveries to be made with holding back certain actions, but for now, I prefer Chicago Express because it maintains the same level of psychological collaboration with more unique avenues for manipulation.
