Ride the Rails
45m - 60m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 12+
This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.

SOLD as it is a good game, but it doesn't play two, and my friends prefer other games anyway. And this wasn't special enough to stay in the collection. ~ 1) Get shares in and expand 6 competing railways. 2) A Stephenson's Rocket or Cube Rails-lite game without auctions. Each turn, players select one of the available shares to acquire. Shared acquired make it so the company can have shorter lines on the board, so heavily investing in a company weakens it. Afterwards players lay track, followed by transporting passengers. Links used to transport passengers award all of their shareholders with dividends. 3) I loved: No auction means I can see myself playing this with non-gamers. The game is built on shared incentives and offers a lot to think about. Lovely bits and production, Ian O'Toole's art is gorgeous as usual. A lovely shared sandbox. 4) Could be improved: 0 chance gameplay and fixed starting cities means there is a chance it will grow samey after a while. 5) Enjoyed my single play of it, easier to grok than Stephenson's Rocket so there is a bigger chance it will see more play. That said I almost always prefer to p lay something else. A very well-put-together product both in terms of production and ruleset. Recommended if you are into train games and are looking for the next step after TTR.

It's like the rail building and cube delivery portion of Age Of Steam, minus everything else. It's 100% open information and math. Moving the passengers can be a little fiddly to track but necessary. Enjoyable but not the type of train game that I would normally default to, although it has merits for its simplicity and accessibility. Super nice production, graphic design, and an excellent price point. The variants on different maps also harkens back to Age Of Steam.

A lot of interesting decisions in only 6 rounds. Should I go for points or turn order? Should I let that other guy get the transcontinental link so that my railway will be linked into the network? Who will help me out? A great game.
