The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.

So I was excited about this game. I like solo games, especially ones on the more rules light side (Onirim). And I love puzzle block games. Match made in heaven right? Well the first level was… disappointing. I get that first levels are supposed to be easy, but this was so easy I actually spent some time online making sure I got the rules right. No game would make me set up a puzzle that took longer to set up than to solve right? Well… turns out these puzzles are insanely easy. And yes, a few of them on the first floor were not instantaneous solutions, but mostly that was a matter of double checking my solutions. On the second floor, I got so frustrated at the easy of the puzzles I stopped bothering to set them up and instead simply looked at the card and started solving them in my head. I finally decided that it’s time to see if this game goes somewhere I can enjoy. So I decided to skip all the floors and go straight to the semi-last floor. Again one puzzle was so easy it made me wonder why make me set it up. But another one or so were decent. But it made me realize that a lot of these particular puzzles (not block game puzzles in general, but specifically a lot in this game) are fairly obvious solutions, a lot of the work is in simply double checking your logistics to make sure you aren’t missing something. I think, in the end, I just play too many puzzle games to get much joy out of this one. My recommendation is if you’re new to the genre, this could be nice? (Maybe? It’s hard for me to tell) But if you’re an experienced puzzle video game player, I’d probably steer clear. I did glance at what was on the Floor X bag to see if it would change my mind on the game, and it didn’t seem like it would, so I did not play it. It’s a shame, because the components are very well done. I tried to compromise on my score. I’d rate it a 4, but I think for less experienced puzzle gamers, it could be a 6 or even higher, depending, I compromised on 5. If you are an experienced puzzle gamer, I suggest maybe starting at level 3 or 4 so you don’t burn out like I did on the easier ones. Levels 1-2 feel….strangely unnecessary and I think it may have been better received by me had they not included 1 and 2 at all. That said, I only played 1, most parts of 2, and some parts of 5 before giving it a pass, so YMMV. Yes, it means less puzzles, but it also means more fun! (also to clarify, unlike some who were complaining about ease on the forums, I did not get the rules wrong regarding box height/numbers) (side note: I’m tempted to keep my copy for my kid to play someday, but I think it will be a bit too long from now to justify, but I suspect it would make a very good kids/family game)

Received from original Kickstarter. Fun solo puzzle experience. Excellent components, well designed box/insert. No regrets on this one!

I loved playing this game, it's great to spend some time figuring out the different levels, which present a wide range of difficulty.
